Cupcakes in Waterloo

March 18, 2008

Yesterday, just before our St. Paddy's Day festivities began, Andrew and I drove to downtown Kitchener. We ended up in front of City Hall and while we entertained the idea of skating at the outdoor rink for a few moments, there was something else I had in mind. You see, there were a few desperate nights where I craved cupcakes and searched long and hard but turned up with nothing. So I turned to a trusty internet forum for some help. I've heard about The Cupcake Shoppe in Toronto, Magnolia Bakery in New York City, and Sprinkles Cupcakes in Northern California so I thought maybe, just maybe, K-W might have something of the sort to offer. I was told of many different bakeries but the one that stood out to me was The Cake Box in Kitchener.

This cute little bakery was packed with colourful displays and made me feel like I was standing in a wedding magazine. It's a small cozy space and if I had more time, I would have liked to sit and have a cup of tea to soak it all in. We stared at the cupcakes for a very long time and finally decided on our choices: Blueberry Lemon, Butterscotch, Oreo Cookies & Cream and Vanilla-Raspberry. I wouldn't say that these are the best cupcakes I've ever had in my life but if you're looking for a cupcake-induced sugar coma, these babies will do it!
