Sweet Hearts

February 14, 2008

Feeling a little domestic today, I (and my sous chef) made a whole batch of mini cakes, modeled after those sweet heart candies, for a few of my friends. Let me tell you, these cakes are not for the faint of heart. These cakes should only be consumed by the sweetest of sweet-tooths, the lovers of sugar and... well those who are not predisposed to diabetes.

These cakes were pretty easy to make so I'll just post it here. I didn't make them from scratch because I just didn't have that sort of time on my hands but I'm sure the taste will make up for that.

Sweet Heart Cakes

Ingredients:
- 1 box super moist devil's food chocolate cake mix
- 1 tub of whipped vanilla icing
- 1 bag white chocolate chips
- 1 tube red icing
- Bailey's Irish Cream

Directions:
1. Make cake batter according to directions on box
2. Dump in as many white chocolate chips as you want (in this case, my friend decided it was pretty much the entire bag)
3. Butter rimmed pan, line with parchment paper and butter again
4. Spread cake mix evenly over the pan
5. Let cake cool and cut out heart shapes
6. Cover cakes evenly with icing (made with pre-made icing, Baileys - again, as much as you like, and food colouring if you wish)
7. Decorate as your heart desires

Speaking of sweet things, I need some ideas for candies I can use in a candy buffet! Let me know what your most favourite candies of all time are.
