Baby Orchid

March 15, 2010

When we first moved into our condo, one of the first things I wanted to get was a new orchid. It was supposed to brighten up our home and make it look pretty.

But Andrew nipped that idea in the bud and we have been orchid-less... until now! We finally got ourselves a little tiny one!

You see, orchids are supposed to be pretty hard to kill. The little tag it came with says it's "elegant and low maintenance" but somehow, I managed to kill not one, but two orchid plants.

When we picked it up, Andrew joked that we should just put it straight into the garbage because that's where it'll end up pretty soon anyway. (You were joking... right?)

Andrew reassured me that those other orchids died because I was never home to properly take care of them. So far, I've been really careful with it, and it's been about a week and it's still alive - whoo hoo!

Christmas Tree 2009

December 12, 2009

Last weekend, we brought the tree out and Nathan and I set out to decorate it. We put all 3 Christmas songs I have on my computer onto a playlist got to work.

Remember last year's tree? I had tried a more modern blue-white-silver theme on it.

This year, Nathan helped me decide on a more traditional look. I asked if he wanted all white lights, or some colour. He chose colour. So we added some red lights.

Then, we found some tinsel-y stuff. I don't know if this stuff is actually called tinsel. But that's what I'm calling it. So we strung some of that on. Nathan really enjoyed this part, and he still adjusts it every time he walks by. It's so cute (but I don't always agree with his style).

And then we took a break. For about a day. Slowly, we've been adding more and more decorations to it. It's a work in progress, but it looks really nice and warm.

A Girl's Bathroom Space

March 4, 2009

Every girl needs her own space. And since it's finally sinking in that we'll be staying here in our little condo for a while, I've started staking out my territory.

Andrew got tired of all my girly stuff "getting in the way" so I took a shelf from our closet (which conveniently made more space for my dresses to hang) and put it in our tiny bathroom to store all my girl-y products. Then, I got a mirror to put beside my shelf so I wouldn't be in Andrew's way when we're getting ready to go out!

I love how this new setup keeps all my stuff in one spot. And it also makes it a lot easier to see the back of my head... you know, because sometimes it's important to be able to do that.

Oh Christmas Tree

December 15, 2008

I was home alone for a couple hours tonight so I put on some Christmas music and decorated our Christmas tree! I've never actually done this before, not really. I didn't realize how hard it was to get all the lights evenly dispersed around the tree and to get the tinsel looking nice. Even harder is placing those little balls and ornaments so they're not all clustered in the same area.

I think it looks pretty good! But what do I know. I went blind a couple hours ago trying to place those lights nicely. Does everyone else turn the lights on to see how they look and turn them off to readjust them multiple times? Because that's what I did and apparently, it's not good for your seeing abilities...
